Welcome to the Altamont Living Museum Website
The Altamont Living Museum is a not-for-profit organization and we offer many forms of entertainment. You'll find award winning performers, plays performed by our local theater troupe A.C.T. and Altamont High school students, country/bluegrass variety shows on Tuesday nights, and memorabilia exhibits on display for your enjoyment. The building is also available for special events such as receptions, special music shows and meetings. The museum has a stage complete with stage lighting, lighting booth, sound system, a sound booth and a house that seats about 120. Downstairs we have a kitchen and a meeting room that is capable of holding 40 people comfortably. Alcohol and smoking are prohibited in the ALM. There are a few things that make the ALM unique: - The ALM is a community service that can provide all this for little or no cost.
- The building was a church built in 1912, and it still has all it's original beauty like:
- Stain Glass Windows
- Wooden Pews for House Seating
- Period wood floors
- An antique tin patterned ceiling
- Period lighting fixtures still in use
- It is handicap accessible with an elevator
- Central air conditioning and heating
- Free parking nearby
We invite you to come by and see the museum. Please either call (217-690-2935) or E-Mail us before you arrive. The ALM is run and managed by a volunteer board of directors and many community volunteers with which we could not continue to operate. We are always glad to hear your comments. Let us know what you think by sending an E-Mail to board@altamontlivingmuseum
Many of the plays presented in the ALM are produced and performed by the Altamont Community Theater (ACT). If you would like to learn more about ACT or join their next production drop us an e-mail. Every Tuesday night the ALM is proud to host the Tuesday Night Bluegrass show. Plays: ACT presents A BAD CASE OF LOVE
If you think your marriage has become trying sometimes, well think twice and jump into a world of Herbert and Viola Bitta. They are the husband and wife at the center of a confusing one act courtroom comedy that is set in the present day and gives you a glimpse into the lives of two dysfunctional and less than attractive human beings. So come on down to our courthouse and sit in on the proceedings. Who knows, you might end up on the jury!
Performances are on September 9, 10th and 11th with curtain time at 7:30pm. Doors will open 1 hour before the show and tickets can be purchased at the door for $5.00 each.
A Bad Case of Love is an original script directed by Dave Zerrusen and written by ACT players Dave Zerrusen and Charlie Niehaus. Cast members include Gene Zerrusen as Herbet S. Bitta, Annette Trigleth as Viola S. Bitta , Charlie Niehaus as Judge Saul Lister, Dr, Steve Bailey as Prosecutor Jack Bass, Carrie Voelker as defense attorney Sue Earlywine , Josh Robison as the bailiff, Linda Smith as Mrs. Steno and April Zacha as Herbina Bitta. HELP us keep the walls up! Our historic building is in need of some repairs and upkeep! We had a MAJOR water leak on the west wall which has been repaired and we have started the work of repairing the damage to the interior of the building. We need to complete plaster replacement and repair on the west wall, paint the west wall, and the rest of the interior and some water damage in the basement due to the leak. Since the ALM is a Not for Profit organization we do not have all the money we need in our bank account to complete these repairs. We would like to ask our patrons and friends to help us keep this historic community performance hall alive and well for years to come. Please donate either online with our chip in project or send a donation to: The Altamont Living Museum P.O. Box 13 Altamont, IL 62411 We would like to thank everyone for the past support and any support you may give us in the future. |
